How Selling Your Vehicle to Blue Line Works, Step by Step
Here's exactly what happens when you sell to Blue Line Auto Buyers, from your first call or text to the last thing you do after the vehicle is gone.
Step 1: Call or text us
Call or text 626-999-2950. We're open every day, 8am to 9pm. Have this ready:
- Year, make and model
- Mileage, or your best guess
- Whether it starts and drives
- Any problems you know about
- Whether you have the title, and whose name is on it
- Where the vehicle is: city or ZIP code
Prefer Spanish? Text us and we'll reply in Spanish. Información en español.
Step 2: Text us photos
Photos are the best way to get an accurate offer the first time. Here's what to send:
- All four sides: front, back and both sides, from far enough away to see the whole vehicle.
- The dashboard with the key on: so we can see the mileage and any warning lights.
- The VIN: the plate at the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side, or the sticker in the driver's door jamb.
- The interior: front seats and back seats.
- Any damage up close: dents, rust, cracked glass, leaks, torn seats.
- Under the hood, if you can open it.
- The front of the title or registration, if you have it, so we can see whose name it's in and whether a lender is listed.
Daylight works best. You don't need to wash or clean the vehicle first.
Step 3: Get our cash offer
We give you one number based on your vehicle and the current market. There's no obligation. If it doesn't work for you, say no thanks and that's the end of it. Curious how we get there? See how we figure out what your vehicle is worth.
Step 4: Schedule pickup
Once you accept, we set a pickup time. Pickup is often the same day, and most sellers are paid within 24 to 48 hours of their first call. Tell us about anything that affects towing, like a tight garage, flat tires, missing keys, or a vehicle parked on the street.
Step 5: Pickup and payment
- We look the vehicle over to confirm it matches what you described.
- You show a photo ID and sign the title. If two owners are listed, check how the names are joined. When they're joined by "and," both owners usually need to sign.
- We pay you in cash before the vehicle leaves.
- We tow it away for free if it doesn't run.
Step 6: After the sale
- File a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. California law requires you to tell the DMV within 5 calendar days of the sale. It protects you from tickets and tolls charged to the vehicle afterward. You can file online on the DMV website or use form REG 138.
- Cancel your insurance on the vehicle once it's gone.
- Take your toll tag (FasTrak) and garage remote out, and update your toll account.
- Check for personal items in the glove box, trunk, center console and under the seats before pickup.
Standard California license plates normally stay with the vehicle. If you have personalized plates you want to keep, tell us before pickup.
What to have ready at pickup
- The title (pink slip), or whatever paperwork you have
- A photo ID for each owner signing
- All the keys and remotes you have
- A lien release, if a loan on the vehicle was paid off
